It was a royal grant from Enrique II of Castile and Doña Juana, his wife, to Juan Martínez de Rojas and María Fernández in November 1367, by which "they were granted the place of Cuzcurrita with all its boundaries, valleys and mountains, meadows and pastures, rivers and waters, terms and vassals with the Justice and Lordship of the said place and the power to put roll, gallows, pillory or knife and other signs of jurisdiction touching the King himself".

It was destroyed in 1865 by one or two lightning strikes (according to the version), but it was later rebuilt by the City Council. The current roll is made up of a plinth and a column with four 1.80-metre drums, topped by an ornamental crowning cone. Its overall height is currently 3.20 metres and the third drum bears the inscription "Destroyed by two lightning strikes, the town council rebuilt me in 1865".

Today, the Bolo is a place that represents the historical and cultural legacy of Cuzcurrita de Rio Tirón, and is a place of great importance for the inhabitants of the village and for those who visit the area.

In addition to its historical role, the Bolo is also a very valuable natural space in Cuzcurrita de Rio Tirón.
