The Sendero de la Ermita de Sorejana, is a signposted path, perfect for those looking for a relaxed and cultural hiking experience. The start of the trail is conveniently marked at a junction near the Plaza Mayor, is located right next to the enclosure wall of the Cuzcurrita Castle.
The first steps of the trail take us along the wall surrounding the winery and the Castle until you reach a fork in the road. Taking the path to the left, as indicated by the signpost to the hermitage, you follow an almost linear route until you reach the final destination: the Romanesque chapel of Sorejana. This trail is not particularly shaded by trees, making it an ideal choice for a spring, autumn or winter walk.
Along the way, walkers will cross fields of cereal crops and vineyards, allowing them to observe different botanical species in their natural environment. Among these species, they will find tuja, cypress, elder, poplar, poplar, thistle, scabious, plantain, poppies, fennel, dandelion and flax. On an agricultural level, apart from vineyards and cereals, there are also olive and fig trees.
At the end of the route, you will find the jewel in the crown: the Romanesque chapel of Sorejana. The hermitage, with its majestic structure and the vegetal decoration carved on the capitals, reminds us of the deep connection with nature and crops in this region throughout history.
It is a flat trail, without difficulties, suitable for all levels of hiking experience.
Approximate time to complete the route is 40 minuteswalking at an average pace of 5 km/h. Although it is highly recommended at any time of the year, if you decide to do it in summer, it is preferable to avoid the hottest hours and always protect yourself from the sun.
This route offers not only natural beauty, but also a rich history. Along the route, you will find places of heritage interest and artistic heritage, such as the historic centre of Cuzcurrita, the Cuzcurrita Castle and, of course, the Sorejana Chapel.
For those looking for a longer route, the path can be connected to the Sendero de la Presa, which runs largely parallel to and above the Sendero de la Ermita de Sorejana.
